Tree City USA Designation

The City of Morris is proud to announce that it has been officially recognized as a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to inspiring people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. This designation honors Morris’s ongoing commitment to urban forestry, environmental stewardship, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

To earn the Tree City USA recognition, Morris met four core standards established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters: maintaining a tree board or department, adopting a community tree ordinance, investing at least $2 per capita in urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day. These efforts reflect the City’s dedication to preserving and expanding its tree canopy for current and future generations.

Trees in communities like Morris provide numerous benefits, including reducing stormwater runoff, lowering energy costs through natural shade, improving mental well-being, and supporting local wildlife. The city plans to continue its investment in tree planting, maintenance, and education to further strengthen these benefits.

The City of Morris encourages residents to take part in caring for the community’s trees and to participate in upcoming Arbor Day events and planting initiatives.
