Minimum Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship (or lawfully admitted with documented intent to become a citizen)
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude
  • Valid driver's license
  • At least 20 years, 6 months of age and under 35 at time of application and at time the final eligibility list is posted (exemptions per 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Illinois POWER Test card within 4 weeks of hire (NIPSTA, Triton Community College, or Joliet Junior College)
  • Residency within 20 miles of Morris Police Department (200 E. Chapin St.) within 18 months of hire
  • Attend mandatory orientation and written test (date TBD)
Preference Points (up to 5 pts)

Education

Associate's Degree in law enforcement/criminal justice, or a Bachelor's Degree in any field from an accredited institution. Submit unofficial transcripts with application.

Experience

Certified Illinois Police Officer with a Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training certificate, currently serving part-time or full-time in Illinois. Submit state-issued certification with application.

Military

At least one year of active U.S. military service with honorable discharge, or current/former inactive or reserve duty. Submit DD-214 or equivalent proof with application.
