CITY OF MORRIS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS –

PLEASE CONTACT THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AT 815-942-5063 TO REPORT ANY CONCERNS REGARDING THE FOLLOWING:

Sidewalk Repairs
Pothole & Pavement Repairs
Street Light Outage
Branch/Brush Removal
Water and/or Sewer Issues

Branches – Brush – Tree Removal

If you have branches that need to be removed, set the brush along the curb, facing toward the street. Logs should be placed in a separate pile from the brush.

NOTE: BRANCH PICK UP is for homeowners ONLY. Contractors are responsible for removal of trees/brush

Junk Truck

Morris Public Works provides a valuable service by picking up large items for residents with the “junk” truck. Please know and understand that this service is not available to contactors doing work in your home or for do it yourself construction/restoration debris. Thank you for understanding.

Snow Plowing

Public Works begins an all-out plowing effort when snow accumulates in excess of 1.5 inches. It is the City’s goal to clear all streets, curb to curb, within 12 hours after the snowfall has ceased. Heavier snow will take longer to clear. The curb to curb policy is in effect to keep gutters and drains open, to receive melting snow and rainfall to avoid street flooding and to accommodate trash pick-up and mail delivery.

Main traffic routes (Snow Removal Routes) are plowed first, main streets through subdivisions are second, while smaller side streets and cul-de-sacs are last.

Leaf Bags

Due to the fact the local landfill only accepts leaves and yard waste disposed in biodegradable bags (no plastic garbage bags can be accepted), the City offers free leaf bag pick-up dates in the fall. Leaf bags are distributed in Goold Park on the first Saturday in October. Each household is entitled to ten (10) free bags or while supplies last. The date and time of distribution is announced on the local radio station as well as in the Morris Daily Herald.

Yard Waste Pickup with Republic Services

Starting the first full week of April and running through the last full week of November, the city’s waste hauler, Republic Services, will pick up unlimited leaf and yard waste with your regular garbage collection. Yard waste should be put into an approved lawn and leaf bag or the garbage container which has the “Yard Waste Only” sticker displayed on the front of the container. Dates are subject to change due to weather. Any changes to these dates will be posted here and on the City of Morris Facebook page.

PLEASE NOTE:

Branches outside of the toters must be bundled to a length less than 48” and weighing no more than 40 pounds.

Street Sweeping

Public Works conducts downtown street sweeping from May 1st through October 31st between the hours of 3:00 A.M. – 7:00 A.M. All vehicles must be removed from the area of Liberty St. from Illinois Ave. to the railroad tracks, and east and west one block. Vehicles not removed will be issued a $5.00 ticket.

Senior Services

The City of Morris offers a Senior Citizen Van which operates Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. The van stops at several different locations throughout the city limits of Morris.

Cost is .25¢ per ride or a ride card can be purchased at a cost of $5.00 which is good for 25 rides. To schedule a ride or for questions you can contact the Public Works Department at (815)942-5063.
